Regulation 7 of “The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999”, requires ALL employers to appoint one or more competent persons to assist and provide advice and guidance to the company on matters of health and safety in house or where more complicated situations require a higher level of knowledge and experience outside assistance – DDFL Solutions .
Regardless if you are self-employed or employee less than 5 employees, you still need a Health & Safety policy and risk assessments. When you employ 5 or more employees you must have the policy and assessments documented to comply with the Health & Safety at Work Act, and all other associated legislation.
